UBQ. Brand Strategy, Copywriting, Tagline, Logo + Visual identity.
Waste. It's the starting point of what comes next.
Sure, there are people out there rethinking waste disposal, and there are companies making things from narrow waste streams like used tires. But no one else is doing what UBQ is doing. They’ve found a way to create a completely new alternative material from everyday household waste – a new natural resource that actually benefits the planet.
UBQ us made out of ordinary household waste – a limitless resource
This versatile material can be used to create thousands of everyday products. And the best thing (as if that’s not great enough?) UBQ will change everything because consumers and manufacturers don’t have to change anything.
People throw away their garbage just like they always do
Municipalities collect it as usual. And this new raw material works perfectly well with existing manufacturing equipment. The only difference is that waste doesn’t end up buried, burned, or dumped at sea. High fives all round!
We started with a battery of interviews with key players at the company as well as an in-depth factory tour. We delivered the core brand essence and from that, a manifesto that you can read down below, and a tagline – Everything matters. Altogether it captures the spirit of this amazing company. We also created a new logo that’s simple, approachable, modern but bold. UBQ is building a company with the potential to benefit the planet for generations to come, and we wanted to deliver a brand for them that will endure just as long.
In a way, with the entrance of UBQ into the world, nothing will change. But in a much more profound way, everything will. This is a limitless natural resource – one we all make simply by living. We’re proud to have delivered the branding for a company that believes the worst thing you can do with trash is bury it in a landfill.
The UBQ manifesto
Where there are people, there’s waste.
Literally everything we do creates it. And with so many of us, the amount of waste we generate is growing at an alarming rate. But what if there was a way to put all this waste to good use?
What if we could turn the very notion of waste on its head and turn it into something that’s actually good? Useful. Celebrated, even. Thanks to UBQ, the world is about to find out that we can. Because there’s magic in waste. And we can put it to exceptional use.
We’ve created a revolutionary way to take ordinary waste and transform it into a new worldwide-patented material that can be used to make the kind of familiar products people use every day. And new products that haven’t even been thought of yet.
Instead of waste being the end result of consumption, let’s make it the starting point of what comes next. And most of all, let’s make it simple.
Simple for consumers. Simple for municipalities. Simple for businesses.
UBQ doesn’t require anybody to do anything differently from what they’re doing now. You can still throw things away the way you normally do. Cities and towns can still collect it and haul it away in the same manner. And businesses won’t have to invest in any new machinery to use the raw materials we provide.
In a way, nothing will change. But in a much more profound way, everything will. A limitless natural resource – one we make simply by living.
For thousands of years, consumption was a straight line, and at the end of it was a pile of garbage. We’ve bent that line into a perfect circle.
Now waste is not the end. With UBQ, waste is only the beginning. The beginning of new product materials. The beginning of a new world. A world of zero waste. A world where everything matters.
